  1. I know naqshbandi's quite well, but the specific order he mentioned I've never heard of.
  2. I think jamat khana is just an urdu word for musallah. But I think islamilis use it more than anyone else.
  3. But that's a biological and culturing difference no? I mean in the west the man and woman is the same thing, and sort of both are equal in authority.
  4. So to everyone who is against this idea of control... Does this mean you shouldn't control your children, what they eat or what they do? Isn't it showing love when we control them in certain ways?
  5. For women prayer at home is best, but in general for all muslims the entire world is a place of prayer for us. There are some exceptions to the rule, like public walkways, cemeteries, and some others. But in general we can pray anywhere =).
  6. That line is where my problem lies. What you are describing is based off of a few events in the past. The christians had ruled by the law of God (the Bible), however, the clergy had been changing the laws and oppressing the people using it. In reaction, the opposing side founded a basic communistic view, where God did not exist whatsoever, and to progress forward society had to remove religion and come together to increase the height of civilization. During this you had a group of people emerge who did not want to discuss whether God really existed or not. Instead, the let people practice their individual beliefs at home, as long as when it came to lawmaking God was not involved. These people were the secularists. We muslims never had such an issue occur, because while we ruled by the book of Allah, we generally allowed a lot of progress for civilization, even during times where the rulers were oppressive. In the last few centuries, due to decline of Islam itself from people in general, discourse shifted to the same that we saw the Christians having. In essence, reform of political structure to a more secular one. The people resisted this up until the downfall of islam in politics. I can understand having discourse with those who are not muslim and showing them contradictions in logic. Or showing them how practically islam will deal with issues when God is soverign. But as muslims, we never actually accept their way of thinking, because we are not secularists. We cannot discuss islamic justice or ethics without implementing the limits of justice and ethics as set by Allah. At the end of the day, the true discussion will always come down to us discussing why we believe in Allah and that He is the lawmaker against their view that either A) God does not exist so laws are created by people themselves or God's existence is irrelevant, when it comes to lawmaking we do not recognize any God.
  7. So what you're saying is that as far as these western nations go, the form of secularism in the US is more lenient on us than those of say France and turkey right?
  8. I dunno about the jamaat khana thing, but there is a difference. A masjid in islam has generally also been sort of the community center. It would have the zakah areas, refuge for the poor, etc. A masjid is also public property for all the muslims and stuff. A musalla though is just a place you made up to go pray. But you still go pray in both. Well actually you can pray anywhere in the world, with a few exceptions =).
  9. Well obviously it doesn't mean to abuse her, you're each others life partners after all. We don't treat our best friends badly, so our life partner is even higher!

  11. The word control is so vague though! I mean we submit to the control of Allah. Allah commands the wife to be obedient to the husband, the children to be obedient to the parents, etc. Isn't that the same as giving up control?
  12. One true way? There might be the most correct opinion, but we will always have different opinions! Hence the madahib =)
  13. Well, we firstly believe that everything comes from Allah. Allah gives an exception however in two things: One in the use of objects, which Allah gives evidence to generally Allah, and the other is administration for things like traffic laws, how many hospitals and schools to build, how a building should be shaped, etc. In 'asl (origin) we need evidence for everything, and in the two above cases the evidences allow us our own leighway to do it. For every belief/action we need evidence on the rest. Akhi that is very dangerous to say, ijtihaad is not mane made law, it is the effort of a person to seek the hukm of Allah. It is bound by the usul of the deen, and cannot be extrapolated beyond that. We do not have many mujtahideen today, and unfortunately people who cannot give rulings often times today do. Men implement laws, or give an interpretation of evidences from islam to get a ruling, they don't make laws. Oh you're saying that you can see how they are giving the benefits that as muslims would should actually have. You're right of course, but none of the countries back home are islamic at all. We know that if governance was implemented upon the sunnah of the rasool peace be upon him, it would be the best. I agree that we don't want to take anything from the system of others, like liberalism or communism. We have islam and alhamdulilah it can stand up to the beliefs of anyone else.
  14. Alhamdulilah this brother is knowledgeable in both tafsir and has wisdom in how he speaks. And you give a good reminder =) I do want to point out though that most people we see speaking are generally laymen themselves who simply have a very good style of speech or knowledge more than other laymen, not actual scholars =). Israr ahmed is one example of an actual scholar (mufassir).
