Music in Islam.

Recommended Posts

Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh brothers and sisters! :D

I am not positive of the position of music in Islam..

I have been told by some that it was not, and by some that it was.

One of my friends said she asked a Sheikh in our near by masjid, and that he said, it was not haraam.

I just wanted to be 100% sure, for what I know she could be lying.

So back to the question. " Is music Haraam? "

I want some proof ( like hadiths or anything ) so I can see for myself. Not that I wouldn't believe you MM's but just want to see something for myself as an extra reassurance.

JazakAllah Khair.

Wa alaikum assalam!

Spider: How do you even search these threads? All I get is random irrelevant threads every time I use the search feature.

I did basically three steps:

(1) Type in the keyword which is "music," in this case, (2) Click on the box where it says "Search titles only" and (3) Highlight the section which seems to be the most relevant section for that particular topic which you are search for, where it says "Find in forum."

Then, all you have to do is click on the "Perform the search" button and that's all.

So, it's very simple actually if you know how to do it. :)

Conclusion: Some issues carry along with them a diversity of opinions in Islam.

Some would say it is halal and others would say it is haram. Both views carry along with them the support of very legitimate scholars.

I'm of the view that we have better things to be listening to. Why not listen to Islamic lectures? Or better yet, the Qur'an!

That was an awesome post Spider.

S4S, there has always been a difference of opinion on it. The important thing is to first meditate upon your intentions, try to be sincere, and then look at the issue. Look at the various arguments and see which one you truly understand as the strongest opinion. It is not right to say "And this is the correct/incorrect opinion" because that is akin to legislating what is haram or halal; if one is wrong then one would have lied against the reality of the divine reality or law. It is therefore wise to say "in our opinion/belief this is the incorrect or correct opinion". Usually the wisest opinions are the ones that deal with the issue from multiple perspectives and addressing multiple issues.

According to my opinion it can be halal

According to my brother's opinion it can be makruh(disliked)

According to your opinion it can be haram.

But as a general rule the first one is weak and the other two are strong opinions.

So, are nasheeds also haraam then??

Some of them have musical instruments and such.

If it is, how come they make them =/

I'm a tad confused about that.
