Meaningful Lyrics

One day

- Matisyahu

sometimes I lay

under the moon

and thank God I'm breathing

then I pray

don't take me soon

cause I am here for a reason

sometimes in my tears I drown

but I never let it get me down

so when negativity surrounds

I know some day it'll all turn around

because

all my life I've been waiting for

I've been praying for

for the people to say

that we don't wanna fight no more

they'll be no more wars

and our children will play

one day x6

it's not about

win or lose cause

we all lose

when they feed on the souls of the innocent

blood drenched pavement

keep on moving though the waters stay raging

in this maze you can lose your way (your way)

it might drive you crazy but don't let it faze you no way (no way)

sometimes in my tears I drown

but I never let it get me down

so when negativity surrounds

I know some day it'll all turn around

because

all my life I've been waiting for

I've been praying for

for the people to say

that we don't wanna fight no more

they'll be no more wars

and our children will play

one day x6

one day this all will change

treat people the same

stop with the violence

down with the hate

one day we'll all be free

and proud to be

under the same sun

singing songs of freedom like

one day x4

all my life I've been waiting for

I've been praying for

for the people to say

that we don't wanna fight no more

they'll be no more wars

and our children will play

one day x6

Dunya- Konan & Krept

The whole song is meaningful, but a certain verse sticks out for me.

'And I don't want to die, knowing that I Shoulda',

Been in The Masjid following The Sunnah,

Instead I was out here caught up in The Dunya,

Saying I'm a Muslim but acting like a Kuffar,

Think how it must look to an on-looker,

Meant to pray 5 times, but only going Jummah,

I hope I'm forgiven before it's my Curtain-Call,

Alhamdulillah...The Most Merciful.'

Good People - Jack Johnson

You win

It's your show, now

So what's it gonna be

'Cause people

Will tune in

How many train wrecks do we need to see?

Before we lose touch of

We thought this was low

It's bad getting worse so

[Chorus:]

Where'd all the good people go?

I've been changing channels

I don't see them on the TV shows

Where'd all the good people go?

We got heaps and heaps of what we sow

They got this and that and

With a rattle a tat

Testing one two,

Now what you gonna do?

Bad news, misused,

Got too much to lose

Gimme some truth

Now whose side are we on?

Whatever you say

Turn on the boob tube

I'm in the mood to obey

So lead me astray by the way, now

Where'd all the good people go?

I've been changing channels

I don't see them on the TV shows

Where'd all the good people go?

We got heaps and heaps of what we sow

Sitting round feeling far away

So far away but I can feel the debris

Can you feel it?

You interrupt me from a friendly conversation

To tell me how great its all gonna be

You might notice some hesitation

'Cause it's important to you, it's not important to me

Way down by the edge of your reasons

It's beginning to show

And all I really wanna know is...

Where'd all the good people go?

I've been changing channels

I don't see them on the TV shows

Where'd all the good people go?

We got heaps and heaps of what we sow

They got this and that

With a rattle a tat

Testing one, two

Now what you gonna do?

Bad news, misused, give me some truth

You got too much to lose

Whose side are we on today, anyway?

OK, whatever you say.

Wrong and resolute but in the mood to obey

Station to station desensitizing the nation

Going, going, gone.

The Script - The Man Who Can't be Moved

Going Back to the corner where I first saw you

Gonna camp in my sleeping bag I'm not gonna move

Got some words on cardboard, got your picture in my hand

Saying, "If you see this girl can you tell her where I am?"

Some try to hand me money, they don't understand

I'm not broke I'm just a broken hearted man

I know it makes no sense but what else can I do

How can I move on when I'm still in love with you

'cause if one day you wake up and find that you're missing me

And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be

Thinkin maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet

And you'll see me waiting for you on the corner of the street

So I'm not moving, I'm not moving

Policeman says, "Son you can't stay here"

I said, "There's someone I'm waiting for if it's a day, a month, a year"

Gotta stand my ground even if it rains or snows

If she changes her mind this is the first place she will go

[Chorus:]

'cause If one day you wake up and find that you're missing me

And your heart starts to wonder where on this earth I could be

Thinking maybe you'll come back here to the place that we'd meet

And you'll see me waiting for you on our corner of the street

So I'm not moving, I'm not moving,

I'm not moving, I'm not moving

People talk about the guy that's waiting on a girl

There are no holes in his shoes but a big hole in his world

Maybe I'll get famous as the man who can't be moved

Maybe you wont mean to but you'll see me on the news

And you'll come running to the corner

'cause you'll know it's just for you

I'm the man who can't be moved

[Chorus 2x]

Going back to the corner where I first saw you

Gonna camp in my sleeping bag, I'm not gonna move

Never forget you - Lupe Fiasco ft John Legend

Take me to that old familiar place

Take me to memories we won't erase

Take me to all that we had

Good and the bad

I'll never forget you

I'll never let you go

I'll never forget you

I'll always remember, I hope you know

Let the record reflect the records we set

Best foot forward with every step

And let's push towards it, never regress

And let's remember, if ever we get

Down, the places that we came from 'round

And all the good times on the bad side of town

The upside of bad, flip it upside down

Came from the bottom but we up high now

Believe, and from this view we achieved

We looked back at the rules we received

And how we broke those, dismantled and rewrote those

And the ghost still alive in the photos

Sounds of the summer, day and go wise

Cold wind blowin' through a city on fire

Moments of the past, came here to find you

Not to relive them, just to remind you

Take to that old familiar place

Take me to memories we won't erase

Take me to all that we had

Good and the bad

I'll never forget you

I'll never let you go

I'll never forget you

I'll always remember, I hope you know

And let the evidence show, the future's so bright

It's never been more, not like tonight

We walk into the glow, right into the light

The past all around us, the time of our life

The first love kisses, the broke heart disses

This is just like a first-class ticket

Back, to the first written rap

The crumbled-up paper and the pen with no cap

The hand-me-down clothes and the unturned hat

The hookers on the corner and the kids sellin' crack

The needles in the yard where we used to play catch

Stories from the project we could never go at

Or to, these are shades of my youth

Trials of a child, everything truth

Moments of the past, comin' back to find us

Not to relive them, just to remind us

Take to that old familiar place

Take me to memories we won't erase

Take me to all that we had

Good and the bad

I'll never forget you

I'll never let you go

I'll never forget you

I'll always remember, I hope you know

Everything cherished, remembered in my heart

So you will never perish, you will never part

I tell 'em all about you, drummin' in the park

We put you in the ground, but I see you in the stars

Go'n, take a bow, a round of applause

The best dad ever, always ready we are

Love always shines, that's how I'll find you

In case you forgot, I hope this reminds you

Take to that old familiar place

Take me to memories we won't erase

Take me to all that we had

Good and the bad

I'll never forget you

I'll never let you go

I'll never forget you

I'll always remember, I hope you know

Skillet - The Last Night

You come to me with scars on your wrist

You tell me this will be the last night feeling like this

I just came to say goodbye

I didn't want you to see me cry, I'm fine

But I know it's a lie.

This is the last night you'll spend alone

Look me in the eyes so I know you know

I'm everywhere you want me to be.

The last night you'll spend alone,

I'll wrap you in my arms and I won't let go,

I'm everything you need me to be.

Your parents say everything is your fault

But they don't know you like I know you they don't know you at all

I'm so sick of when they say

It's just a phase, you'll be o.k. you're fine

But I know it's a lie.

The last night away from me

The night is so long when everything's wrong

If you give me your hand I will help you hold on

Tonight,

Tonight.

I won't let you say goodbye,

I'll be your reason why.

The last night away from me,

Away from me.

Jagjit Singh, definitely. He an old indian singer, he sings ghazals. I would post alot of his poems but most people can't understand it. And I really don't want to butcher them by translating, because the you can't relay the effect the words have on you when sung in Urdu/hindi to English.

One ghazal of his that brings me to tears is 'chitti na koi sandesh' it's about when someone dies and moves on to the next place. I don't mean to be a buzzkill, nor am I saying anything about music/lyrics.. but listening to it might be a little soothing, but nothing gives you as much sabr as the hadith of RasoolAllah salalaho alayhi wasalam when he says that Allah subhana tala says that He has no reward greater than paradise for a believing servant after He takes away a companion of theirs from this world. Yknow that way that hadith touches your heart, and gives you sabr and that push to go on for Allahs sake, that's what I used to seek in music, which is stupid i know because it's not there, but really all the meaningful things that you need are in the Qur'an I just wish it felt as accessible as music does, and the language and intellectual barrier wasn't there, not that they can't be overcome, i guess you just need effort.

I dunno, just something random that came to my mind. But Basanti if you can understand it, read his ghazals. :) [if not i'll translate on PM, not publicly *_*]

"Meet The Parents" - Jay Z

Woo! Uhh, uhh

It's "The Gift & the Curse"

Uhh, uhh yea

First they love me then they hate me then they love me again

.. they love me again

Let's take a trip down.. I gotcha

Let's take a trip down memory, lane at the cemetery

Rain grey skies, seems at the end of every

young black life is this line, "Damn - him already?

Such a good kid," got us pouring Henn' already

Liquor to the curb for my, niggas up above

When it, cracks through the pavement that's my way of sendin love

So, give Big a hug, tell Aa-liyah I said hi

'Til the next time I see her, on the other side

He was just some thug that, caught some slugs

And we loved him cause, in him we, saw some of us

He walked like us, talked like us

His back against the wall, ***** fought like us - damn

Poor Isis, that's his momma name

Momma ain't strong enough to raise no boy, what's his father name?

Shorty never knew him, though he had his blood in him

Hot temper, momma said he act just like her husband

Daddy never ****ed with him, so the streets raised him

Isis blaming herself, she wish she could've saved him

Damn near impossible, only men can raise men

He was his own man, not even him can save him

He put his faith in a, thirty-eight in his waist

But when you live by the gun you die by the same fate

End up, dead before thirty-eight and umm

That's the life of us raised by winter, it's a cold world

Old girl turned to coke, tried to smoke her pain away

Isis, life just, ended on that rainy day

When she got the news her boy body could be viewed

down at the City Morgue, opened the drawer, saw him nude

Her addiction grew, prescription drugs, shift and brew

Angel dust, dipped in WOO!

She slipped into, her own fantasy world

Had herself pregnant by a different dude

But reality bites and, this is her life

He wasn't really her husband, though he called her wife

It was just this night when, moon was full

And the stars were just right, and the dress was real tight

Had her sounding like Lisa Lisa - I wonder if I take you home

will you still love me after this night?

Mike was the hardhead from the around the way

that she wanted all her life, ♥♥♥♥ she wanted all the hype

Used to hold on tight when he wheelied on the bike

He was a Willie all her life he wasn't really the one to like

It was a, dude named Shy who would really treat her right

He wanted to run to the country to escape the city life

But I-sis, like this, Broadway life

She loved the Gucci sneakers, the red green and whites

Hangin out the window when she first seen him fight

She was so turned on that she had to shower twice

How ironic it would, be some fight that

turned into a homicide that'll alter their life

See Mike at thirty-two was still on the scene

Had a son fifteen that he never saw twice

Sure he saw him as an infant, but he dissed on him like

"If that was my son, he would look much different.

See I'm light-skinned and that baby there's dark

so it's, momma's baby; poppa's maybe."

Mike was still crazy out there running the streets (**** niggas want?)

Had his old reliable with thirty-eight gun in his reach

It's been fourteen years, him and Isis ain't speak

He running around like life's a peach, 'til one day

he approached this thug that, had a mean mug

And it looked so familiar that he called him "Young Cuz"

Told him, get off the strip but the boy ain't budge (**** you)

Instead he pulled out a newer thirty-eight snub

He clearly had the drop but the boy just paused (hold up)

There was somethin in this man's face he knew he seen before

It's like, lookin in the mirror seeing hisself more mature

And he took it as a sign from the almighty Lord

You know what they say about he who hesitates in war

(What's that?) He who hesitates is lost

He can't explain what he saw before his picture went blank

The old man didn't think he just followed his instinct

Six shots into his kid, out of the gun

Niggas be a father, you're Killing your son

Six shots into his kid, out of the gun

Niggas be a father, you Killing your sons

Meet the parents.. [echoes and slows down as it fades]

Allah ke Bande. Translation sounds kinda awkward but hopefully you can get the gist of it

Broken, broken, a bird has broken such that

it could not be put together again.

Stolen, stolen, who has stolen it such that

it was not able to fly again

Falling from the sky, it

came and fell on the ground

In dreams, there were still clouds

But he kept saying

God's children laugh, God's children

God's children laugh. Whatever happens, tomorrow will come again.

Only after losing its wings, did it learn how to fly.

After losing its wings...

Take the sorrow with you. This pain will be of use to you.

God's children laugh, God's children.

God's children laugh. Whatever happens, tomorrow will come again.

Every dream was shattered when he broke down

It was shattered...

Every dream was shattered when he broke down

On these spread apart pieces, you will find God's will/wish

God's children laugh, God's children

God's children laugh. Whatever happens, tomorrow will come again

One of my favorite 2Pac songs, Who Do You Believe In

I see mothers in black crying, brothers in packs dying

Plus everybody's high, too doped up to ask why

Watchin our own downfall, witness the end

It's like we don't believe in God cause we livin in sin

I asked my homie on the block why he strapped, he laughed

Pointed his pistol as the cop car passed and blast

It's just another murder, nobody mourns no more

My tear drops gettin bigger but can't figure what I'm cryin for

Is it the miniature caskets, little babies

Victims of a stray, from drug dealers gone crazy

Maybe it's just the drugs, visions of how the block was

Crack came and it was strange how it rocked us

Perhaps the underlying fact they hide explain genocide

It's when we ride on our own kind

What is it we all fear, reflections in the mirror

We can't escape fate, the end is getting nearer

Same verse as in 3 messages with Nas and Obie Trice but "who do you believe in" is the original song with that verse.

Dust is my Bed - Farshy Al Turab (This gives me the chills. =S)

Dust is my bed, embraces me and it’s my cover now

The sand surrounds me even behind my back

And the grave tells a dankness of my affliction

And the brightness draws a line……………

Where is my family’s love? They sold my loyalty!

And where is my group of friends? They left my brotherhood!

Where is the bliss of money? It’s behind my back now

And my name (reputation) where is it shine between praises

This is my end and this is my bed

And love farewells its longing and my elegizing cried

And the tears went dry after crying

And the universe became narrow and so is my space

And the grave became my ground and sky

This is my end and this is my bed

Fear fills my estrangement and sadness is my illness

I expect firmness and I swear it’s my cure

And for Allah i pray faithfully, you are my hope

Allah! I desire heaven, to find bliss in it

And for Allah i pray faithfully, you are my hope

Allah! I desire heaven, to find bliss in it
