Imac reinstall howto

Recommended Posts

Hello guys

I want to reinstall my Imac. I have no idea how to go about this, also I dont recall recieving any reinstall-cds. Have any of you guys tried to reinstall your Imac, and is it done quickly, easy and painfree? I did ask sheikh google, but there are too many mixed answers....

It is four years old so there is no warranty, I dont think them Apple people will guide me either

Barak Alllaahu feekum, I would be so grateful.

My bros MacBook stopped working and my work was on there like the software i installed for stats.

We have to do that to fix it. Given that i crashed computers in the past, they thought it was me.

Jazak Allaah khayr Mo. You are just awesome!!

Well I checked and I realised I have completely lost my sense of time....

Its running on Yosemite version 10.10.5.

Its a 21'5. medio 2012, so it is older than I thought.

Jiya good luck with that. My macbook also needs a reinstall to be honest. The only reason am not doing it, is because of the programs I got installed. I can't be bothered installing Matlab, SAS, adobe cloud all over again.... it just takes too much time and all the things I got saved makes me want to ... not reinstall!

Ok so you want to get an external harddrive and copy all your work and work related folders to it.

Do time machine back up, get a blank hard drive, depending on the size of your iMac

(That's only if you wanna keep your files)

If you don't care about keeping your files then reset is easy.

Jazak Allaahu khayr guys. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!

Well, there are some programs that I do want to keep, but I have turned off the time machine I think? it also takes up alot of space, and already now I receive the message about my start up disk being full and I should delete files, so I wonder what will happen after the time machine is enabled... or wait, do you know if you can turn on the time machine and do the back up? I should probably try that! I dont want to erase my adobe programs

This leads me to another question. How do you guys make space for your start up disk? My macbook pro got flash storage and its only about 120 :(

Respecta, that must be the link I have been looking for.

Thank you guys. I will let you know how it goes. I am so happy there is hope!!
